Hitting the Gym

So I’ve started actually going to the gym since I have some time off before I start my new job—and I’m actually really liking it. My body (especially my legs) are feeling sore but it’s a good kind of hurt, I know I’m working my muscles. I’m looking forward to getting back into shape and feeling healthier. I’m not too much concerned with how much I weigh (I think I’m around 115 right now but not sure since my scale is not exactly that accurate, being from IKEA and all) but more-so with muscle tone (which weighs more than fat anyway) and how strong I feel.

I’m not dieting, either, but I am trying to cut back on soda (only drinking when I go out to eat, which has also been cut back so I’m eating at home more) and really trying not to over-stuff myself. No more of this squeezing in dessert to fill up the “cracks” in my stomach after I’m already feeling full.

Anyway, I’m doing a mix of stretches, cardio, core and light strength training exercises at the gym and at home. The elliptical and treadmill are my usual go-tos and I’ve rediscovered my NYC Ballet Workout video and my yoga mat. I also found out there’s a Lulu Lemon store in Union Square that holds free Yoga classes on Sunday mornings. AND, if I haven’t mentioned it before, I started taking Belly Dance classes at a studio in the Mission about a month ago, which is fun and challenging in it’s own unique ways. I’m more used to forms of dance like Ballet or Jazz and tribal-style belly dance’s movements are quite different. I’m debating whether or not I also want to seek out a ballet or jazz class. I’d have to start over at the beginner level of either if I decide to since it’s been so long since I’ve taken a class, though. 🙁

Anyone else know of fun workouts I should try? I’m trying to keep myself from getting bored by doing a lot of different things. 🙂

And if you’re interested, you can follow my workouts on Daily Mile. I like the site a lot, it has a nice, bright, and clean design and is pretty easy to use. However I’m a little disappointed there isn’t much focus on exercises besides walking, running, and biking. But that’s not stopping me from using it to keep track of things. 🙂

I just joined a gym as well. I plan on working out at least three times a week. Sadly I don’t have any routine suggestions, but if I come up with some I will let you know! I was thinking about keeping a workout blog as well. Good luck with your workout!
